Course Description

This course is designed to enhance an understanding of the nature of family literacy needs by exploring the practices related to family literacy and how to develop literacy interventions for families and children of English learners.  Coursework will include ideas of how to develop and used multiple methods to teach in family literacy programs by exploring four components of such programs: childhood education, parenting education, adult education, and parent and child together time (PACT).  With many countries introducing English language instruction at the elementary school level and even at the kindergarten level, English learning is important for English as Foreign Language (EFL) parents, children, and schools.  The main ideas and guiding principles covered in this course can be applied to any EFL countries.
