Doctoral Admission Requirements
The admission requirements are the same for both the Ph.D. and Ed.D. programs. Applicants must meet the basic admissions criteria as set by the School of Education Office of Graduate Studies as well as the specific academic requirements set by the HESA program.
The initial application deadline for all interested students (domestic and international) is December 1. Applications received by December 1 will receive automatic consideration for University fellowships and will receive priority review with the HESA admissions committee. Applications received after December 1 will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the admissions committee closes the admission cycle or June 1, whichever comes earlier.
Office of Graduate Studies Admission Requirements
HESA Doctoral Program Admission Requirements:
- Prefer applicants have a master’s degree from an accredited institution. Students with a bachelor’s degree and several years of work experience are also encouraged to apply.
- Minimum GPA of 3.5 in all graduate work.
- Ideally have a minimum 1100 combined score of the GRE verbal and quantitative sections and a minimum score of 4.0 of the GRE analytical writing section.
- Personal goal statement that clearly specifies the desired outcomes the applicant hopes to achieve through enrollment in the HESA doctoral program.
- Submission of a writing sample. Samples may include a published paper, magazine/newsletter article, research paper, technical report, or other type of academic or scholarly writing you have produced. Please do not submit brochures, marketing copy, curriculum plans, or other documentation that would not be a strong example of academic writing.
We encourage full-time applicants to apply for the fall semester. Due to the sequencing of courses and the timing of graduate assistantships, starting the program mid-year is difficult. Part-time students are encouraged to discuss their desired admission plans with a faculty member to determine the optimal semester in which to apply.
