Course Description

The study of theory, research, cultural issues, and practice in the teaching of writing in elementary schools.  Students will examine current literature, as well as personally participate in the writing process. 

The following goals guide the course:

• To help participants develop their own understanding of the composing processes as well as to enhance each participant’s ability to write;
• To help students become familiar with theory, principles and practices of teaching writing in elementary schools;
• To help participants become familiar with children’s composing processes and language development;
• To help participants develop a sensitive, critical awareness of diversity issues in the teaching of writing.
