TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM (TEP)
  • You must be admitted to the Teacher Education Program before you can student teach. If you are not admitted to TEP, you will not be able to fill out the online application. Questions about admission to TEP should be addressed to Jane Benjamin at 856-8523 or jabenjam@indiana.edu.

NOTE: If you do not have PRAXIS I scores you cannot be admitted to the Teacher Education Program. NO EXCEPTIONS!

GRADE POINT AVERAGES AND COMPLETION OF COURSEWORK
  • By the time you are ready to student teach, you must have attained certain GPA requirements in several different categories of your program. GPA requirements vary from program to program (see below).
  • 100% of professional coursework must be completed prior to student teaching. 75% is required for other individual areas, i.e. area of concentration, general education areas, etc.
  • Should you have any questions or concerns about your coursework and/or GPA, please check your Degree Progress Report in ONESTART (http://onestart.iu.edu/). If more detailed information is needed or your educational plan requires evaluation, make an appointment with a School of Education advisor.
  • The Office of Student Teaching will check your eligibility one semester prior to the scheduled start of your student teaching. If you do NOT meet academic benchmarks, you will have to file an appeal to continue with your placement. In some very rare instances, low GPAs are waived for student teaching; however, you must achieve the required GPA and successfully complete coursework in order to graduate and receive certification.
  • The Student Teaching Office will not cancel a placement until the appeals process has runits course, or the student has chosen to postpone of their own volition.
  • Foreign language majors pass the Foreign Language Proficiency exam before they are eligible to student teach. Most foreign language departments suggest that students take this exam at the end of the junior year. The exam should be arranged early in the semester.
