Application Handbook Section 2

The Applicants' Responsibilities

Know Your Academic Status

  • Make an appointment with an academic advisor to verify that you are ready to apply for student teaching and that all eligibility requirements have been met.

Communicate with the Office of Student Teaching

  • You must keep the Office of Student Teaching apprised of any changes to your program. If you want to drop a special program (e.g. Cultural Immersions Projects), make a request to teach out-of-state, request to defer student teaching for another year, or if there are any changes in your academic status, please inform the office immediately. Email the office of student teaching at stuteach@indiana.edu.

Be Professional

  • Find out the dates and times of various student teaching meetings and make sure you sign up and attend.
  • Take great care in preparing your application materials, making sure everything is error free in both grammar and form.
  • Know application due dates and turn in materials on that date. Procedural penalties will be assessed on all late applications.
  • Reply promptly to any messages from our office. Your delay in responding to our phone calls or emails could jeopardize your placement(s).
  • Respond promptly to any requests from schools for interviews.

Keep Accurate Records

  • Have a copy of your completed student teaching application on file at home. Save emails and other messages from our office for future reference.

Please Be Patient

  • Since the Office of Student Teaching deals with a large number of students, teachers, and school administrators, we ask that you be patient in waiting for the confirmation of your placement(s). When requesting information about your status, please give as much detail as possible concerning your question so that the staff can respond to you appropriately and quickly.
